AWG warns of deficient airline restructuring efforts and a potential legacy of expedient changes in laws
Against the background of 26 airline bankruptcy or similar filings so far this year, covering a combined fleet of more than 1,000 aircraft, the Aviation Working Group, representing aircraft manufacturers, leasing companies and financial institutions, says it is now seeing restructuring efforts not built on basic principles and therefore unlikely to succeed. Furthermore, the group is also concerned that many countries are seeking to change laws and modify long-standing rules, potentially creating bad legal precedent that could remain with the industry many years to come.
