Singapore Airlines orders $7.5 billion worth of Airbus jets
October 24th: Singapore Airlines has ordered 25 widebody aircraft from Airbus, five A380s and 20 A350-900s, in a deal valued at $7.5 billion at list prices. This is the third A380 order for the airline, bringing its total number of A380s on order to 24. Its A350 order doubles the airline's backlog of orders for that aircraft to 40. At present the airline has 19 aircraft in service. As part of the deal Airbus has reportedly agreed to acquire its five A340-500s, which will be removed from service in the fourth quarter of 2013, in line with the carrier’s plans to maintain a young fleet.
